Aww. An adorable kitten gets me every time. Kittens are my kryptonite; they really are. Ask my family. I. Just. Can’t. Say. No.
My family adopted our first cat in 2000. Who could have predicted that over the next twenty years we would have added nine cats (three have since passed away- R.I.P Storm, Tiger, and Huck) to our family. Luckily, my children and my husband are just as crazy for cats as I am. Currently we are loving Hunter, Herman, Hercules, Helio, Hazel, and Holly (anyone sense a theme here?). And, we also have our dog, Macy.
Our pets truly are family members. When we lose a pet (we’ve also lost two police K9 partners of my husband), we mourn them as we would any other family member. Like any other family member, they could never be replaced. That just means we have an opening in our house for another animal to enjoy life on our “farm”!
In the past year and a half I have used my addiction to kittens to help out our local animal shelter, the Whiting Animal Shelter, by fostering every chance I get. So far I have fostered thirteen kittens- and I’ve adopted only three of them. I am so proud of my self-control. Visit your local animal shelter and take home a kitten or two- maybe even a dog.
After enjoying so many furry friends in our house all these years, I can’t imagine my furniture without pet hair and my lap without at least one cat in it.
