My “Ride or Dies” Courtesy of Mom and Dad

Lucky people have a “ride or die”- the one person they can count on in any situation.  No questions asked, that person has your back.  Really lucky people have more than one.  I count myself among the really, really lucky ones.  I was gifted three “ride or dies” by my parents- my three sisters.  We have been there for each other though weddings, divorce, births, illnesses, deaths. We are all that is left from our family of seven.  We have always been close, but that bond has strengthened over the last thirteen years after leaning on each other to deal with our parents’ health issues and deaths and our brother’s death. As awful as all those events were, I wouldn’t have wanted to go through them with anyone but my sisters.  We make each other laugh, we make each other cry, we keep secrets (sometimes!), we talk, we listen.  We are there for each other always.

In addition to spending weekends together throughout the year, we also vacation together.  The Sistas have visited Jamaica, Cape Cod, Tybee Island, and we just returned from Orlando.  We have already begun planning our next trip.  All four of us have busy lives and families, but we make the time for each other and support each other.

Thanks, Mom and Dad!

If you have a sister, cherish her.

About Traci

I never would have thought I’d be so happy about being in my 50s. My health has never been better, and my personal and professional life have gone through many changes in the last ten years. I’ve gone from teaching high school English for twenty years to managing the office of a contractor company for a major refinery. Also, my children are now grown and out of the house- I’m a empty nester. I really believe this chapter will be the best yet!
